How flows work

When you set up Wiz, it builds a complete set of automated email flows for your store - each one designed to reach customers at the right moment and turn browsing into sales. This article explains what flows are and how to read the Flows page, your home for everything flow-related.

You'll find it all under Wiz → Flows & pop-up in your Shopify admin.

The flows Wiz builds for you

Wiz generates five core flows, plus your pop-up, all matched to your branding and products:

Flow

What it does

Welcome

Welcomes new subscribers and delivers the welcome discount

Browse abandonment

Follows up when someone views products but doesn't add to cart

Abandoned checkout

Recovers shoppers who start checkout but don't complete it

Post purchase

Follows up after a purchase

Winback

Re-engages customers who haven't bought in a while

Each one is introduced in The core flows. You can also build your own - see Creating a custom flow. The Pop-up is managed from this page too; it has its own articles - see How the pop-up works.

The Flows page, with a flow expanded to show its emails

Reading the Flows page

The stats bar at the top shows your flows' combined results for the period you pick (last 7 days by default): attributed revenue, conversions, emails sent, open rate, and click rate.

The Active Flows table lists every running flow. Click a flow to expand it and see the individual emails inside - each row shows its own sent, open rate, click rate, orders, and revenue numbers, so you can see what every flow and every email is earning right from this page. For the deeper numbers, see Understanding your flow analytics.

The Pop-up section shows your pop-up's impressions, collected emails and phone numbers, and fill rate.

Disabled flows collects any flows you've turned off, so they're out of the way but easy to bring back.

Statuses and counts

  • A flow's toggle shows whether the whole flow is on. Turned-off flows move to Disabled flows.
  • Each email inside a flow carries a badge: green Active (sending) or orange Disabled (turned off).
  • The count next to a flow's name - like 2/3 - means how many of its emails are active out of the total.

To switch things on and off, see Turning flows and emails on or off.

The flow menu

Every flow row has a menu:

The flow menu

  • Analytics - the flow's full performance page, order by order. See Understanding your flow analytics.
  • Edit flow - open the flow in the flow builder to change its trigger, timing, and emails.
  • Change name - rename the flow.
  • Turn off - stop the whole flow (same as its toggle).

The pop-up's menu has one option, Edit pop-up, which opens the pop-up editor.

The email preview

Select an email and the panel on the right shows it exactly as your customer will see it. Click Details above the preview to see the From address, Subject Line, and Preview Text. The Edit menu is where you change the email - its name, its design, its subject and preview text - or send yourself a test. See Editing an email.

Common questions

Why isn't anything sending yet?

On a brand-new store, nothing sends until you activate your emails once. See Activating your emails.

Can I change what's in a flow?

Yes - everything. Open the flow in the flow builder to edit its trigger, filters, delays, and emails, add or remove emails, or reorder them.

Where do I edit an email's design?

Select the email, open the Edit menu on the preview, and choose Edit Email Template - it opens the drag-and-drop editor. See Editing an email.

What happened to the Flow Editor?

The Flows page (and the flow builder behind it) replaced the old Flow Editor - same flows, more control, with performance numbers built in.
